Aliou, accompanied by the fire elemental which reluctantly calls rogue flames into himself, moves out into the central area to inspect the damage. A large number of guards have been killed in Foul Vapors and surprise Bone Shatters. Meanwhile Pole rouses the rest of the guards and convinces them that an attack has occured. Morok and his ladies come to examine the situation and Aliou and Pole use it as a chance to show him what fried horror constructs look like and the protection afforded by orichalcum.
Aliou and Pole accuse the empire's ambassador of consorting with horrors and convince Morok to allow them to go after him and the empire's tower. The fire elemental is sent to slowly burn the tower from bottom to top. Aliou casts Sky Lattices around the tower to provide escape routes for those in the tower. Pole climbs one lattice to assist in the evacuation and to watch for the ambassador. After many have been evacuated a dark shape is briefly seen to leave the towertop. The ambassador appears and begins to shout in a manic state. When Pole goes after him the ambassador prepares to throw himself off the tower. Aliou begins a Sky Lattice to catch him for questioning when suddenly Tula the traitorous troubadour reluctantly says, "Not this time you won't," taunts Aliou, and stabs Morok with a dagger. The ambassador hurls himself off the tower to his death while Tula sprints for safety. She is unable, however, to outrun the rain of arrows Morok's guards send after her with a little prodding from Aliou. She falls, arm outstretched, and suddenly a dark T'skrangian hand reaches out to her from the shadows and they both disappear. A medic attends to the wounded Morok and discovers that the blade used was poisoned. Aliou considers gaining the Elementalist Cold Purify talent as an aid against poison until he rereads it and remembers what an incredibly sucky talent it is, even more laughable since it's fifth circle.
The fire elemental reaches the top of the tower and gleefully proclaims his brilliance to the world. He is dismissed just before
the tower collapses on itself. Morok is moved back into his building surrounded by doctors, guards, and torchbearers alerted to the horror's mode of travel.
Aliou goes to search the flattened body of the ambassador and sends Leelay to inspect the rubble. Meanwhile Pole charges up to Tula's room with the intent of
seeing what valuables she left behind. Upon entering her room he makes the unpleasant discovery that the t'skrang potling has brought the ork back to her room to pack.
