BOARDING ON THE BORDERLANDS

A Summary of the 5/3/98 Session

By Brian P. Clausen 6/26/98

The party chases Tula out of this building and down into another. Just as she is about to open a secret door down in the crypts the party catches up with her. She is engaged in a dialog with an unseen entity, and the party hears her saying, "He's left me, he must have went to -"

At that moment she sees the party and says no more. The party quickly extends her silence to a permanent nature. There simply isn't any way they can negotiate or otherwise deal with a horror-touched individual. She died the moment she became a willing servant of evil.

Aliou spies the secret door but, exerting a terrible self-control, decides to leave whatever riches may lie beyond it alone.

The party returns to the healing mud and fills their canteens with them. Those who haven't already soaked themselves do so. Aliou sends one cubic yard of the stuff down into the earth with a spell, and a search of the pit yields two copper coins, one silver coin, a non-magical bronze bracelet, and a bone.

The party heads back for Kesh and encounters the Keshites moving upstream on a barge. Although it requires all of their healing mud (which was fading in effectiveness from the source anyway), they are able to save Morok's life.

But the news quickly reaches them that Tern has been subjected to a terrible attack of a now familiar nature. They hustle back to find that the palace has been obliterated, no doubt by one or more of those skull bombs of the enemy. Representatives of the other two city-states of Tolaria quickly make an appearance, hoping to make a profitable negotiation for Morok's city.

Morok holes up in the best Inn in Kesh and there they meet with Temer, the human leader of Tern, and Kring, the married T'skrangian swordswoman, and also Teecan the human of Nimegan and his troll bodyguard. After much negotiating a resolution is arrived at for the sale of the city, and one that also comprehends atonement for the destruction caused by Aliou and Pole in Tern. Morok thanks the party for their help despite the doom they unwittingly brought upon him, then he and his party flee the city for safety.

The party wisely does the same. They head for the Borderlands because Pole needs something or rather there. They have heard that the Borderlands are series of small warring princedoms and are curious as to what they might find.

After crossing into the region they encounter Tuka the strike-group leader and his 25 horsemen of the Eagle clan. They take the party back to the clan's nomadic campsite and watch as a great army of horsemen return. The party mingles with the horsefolk while Aliou trains.

The party is taken into a tent and told that they may undergo a mystic experience if they rub a frog over their bodies. They are told that it may answer some of their questions. The party, willing to try just about anything once, agrees to undergo the experience. With trepidation they begin the ritual as they concentrate on the great mysteries that are weighing on their minds.
